How do you think high economy cars, like the Prius, will work as taxi cabs?

There’s a push in New York to replace many of the taxi cabs with high fuel economy vehicle. But, I have to wonder how these cars are going to handle regularly carrying the weight of five adults. That’s going to run 1000+ lbs of weight, along with the constant use of the AC system, which is required when Temperatures run over 85 degrees.
Can catalytic converters be adden to pre 1975 cars WITHOUT AFFECTING PERFORMANCE?

I have a ’65 Mustang (for over 15 years) that is driven occassionally when necessary. When it comes time for yearly inspection I get a free ride from the emmisions test that most other cars are subjected to. Can a catalytic converter be installed or is there something about it that affects the overall operability of older car engines.
How will the car maintenance and repair industry change as electric cars become the norm?

Will mechanics that one worked on combustible engine cars learn about electric cars and then get certified to work on those? Because they are vastly different kinds of vehicles.
