Is family a strong reason why one should give up his dreams and his own happiness?

My friend told me, who is a closet gay, that he cannot tell his family what he really is for he does not want to disappoint them. He firmly believed that they would not understand his situation and he will only bring shame to them. He is also anticipating that his family would compel him to get marry even though he does not want but he has no choice.

Is it wrong even if this particular family member is good looking on the outside but has a nasty personality and is very bad, uncaring, narcissistic, spoiled, self-centered, money-grubbing, and is mean to me? I absolutely hate them, I find myself constantly wishing and hoping they would just die in a freak accident or I fantasize about poisoning them during dinner. I don’t understand how my parents actually love them! (This family member is my sibling by the way)

So november 3-6 is family weekend at my university and my family is not coming. I was thinking of visiting home cause I probaly wont go home on weekends so this is the probaly the first time I have seen them since i started university. I could go home, have dinner with them, catch up with my best friend. What else should i do

Is it wrong even if the particular family member is incredibly mean, spoiled, self-centered, narcissistic, and has been bad to me? I can’t help it, but I find myself constantly wishing and hoping they would just die in a freak accident or something.

My family consist of 3 people my sister, my dad and me, what kind of family would we be considered? I am just wondering cause I am really confused about this stuff? My mom is in prison My mom is in prison for the next 10-15 years Just to add this in, I don’t really miss my mom much, because she was a child abuser but thats not why she is in prison she got arrested for drugs, unpaid child support, illegal guns, and a few other things

How do you deal with it? When your family is so close-minded. They just mindnumbingly believe anything the news tells them, they buy all the latest materialistic stuff, they don’t question anything etc. etc. They won’t open their eyes even a little. How do you deal knowing that you take such a different view on life to your loved ones?
