Is it possible to get good at sports with a late start?

Well, I like most sports, but I suck at them because for whatever reason I didnt care for them until I was about 13-14 and therefore havent been playing any of them when most people were. Still, everyone else has had about 4+ more years of experience then me, do I even have a small chance of catching up? I literally know nothing about most sports; I dont even watch most of them on tv. Yikes, I know, but if Im devoted do I have a chance?

Hello everyone! I am doing a little sociology project, looking at the demography of sports. I want to know which major league teams are the most popular in your *immediate* area where you live. This could mean your town or your neighborhood if you live in a big city. If two teams are even in your area, please describe. There’s no right answer, it’s just what you perceive to be most popular. How do I get into talking about sports like football or basketball? Is there a place for noobs to learn?
I have no clue and usually most people into sports don’t like talking to beginners, since they’ve been brought up in families that talk about it day and night since they’re 1 year old.
What are good fighting sports to go do for someone with no experience? ?

I would like to do a fighting/self defense sport, but i have no experience with fighting sports whatsoever and dont know what i should do. Judo, karate, tae-kwondo, boxing? I dont mind getting kicked around a bit, but i dont want to lose teeth or suffer brain damage. I dont need it to be too extreme, i just want to learn to fight and excercise. Any suggestions? Im an 18 year old male, in good condition.

When sports are involved, are American colleges just part of the entertainment industry?

They pay kids with scholarships to entertain fans to make money, most of which gets reinvested in the sports programs to make more money.
All the while, they push kids into either athletic majors or sociology or something that requires little coursework. Many of them, like the University of Oklahoma, they are not even in with the rest of the students in their basic general education classes. They have sections of math English, history, and so on of just athletes.
Is this the business model of a serious learning institution or an entertainment company?
