How do I make my pets get along?
Ok, I have a puppy I have gotten recently. I also have a adult male cat who has never seen a dog in his entire life. When I brought the puppy home my cat was inquisitive about the puppy. The puppy would try to play with my cat, but my cat takes the play alittle to seriously and hiss’s and claws my puppy. How do I make them get along?

It’s totally normal. Your cat is letting him know who was there first and has priority.
They settle it themselves, especially as the puppy gets bigger (the cat will figure out that the dog is bigger; the dog never knows that).
If you’re worried about serious damage to the pup, you can get a crate and take turns keeping one in while the other has free range of your place. But unless the cat is really going after the puppy, just ignore them – they sort it out over time, much like human siblings and roommates.

well first of all your cat is going to be SSUUPPEERRR jeleous because you brought something new into the house and not only that it’s a dog! so it’s going to be stress for days! but there are things you can do! well you hold the puppy and then have someone else hold the cat. then while waching t.v. or having a conversation with someone gentley stroke them and come them down. then they will feel relaxed around each other and wont play “ruff” ! so yeah do that for a few days and it will help alot! if it doesn’t then try asking a vet for some tips! ♥

You have to give it time. Your cat will decide when it’s ready to get along with your new puppy. Your cat isn’t a puppy or a dog so it is going to react differently to having a puppy around. Make sure that your cat has a safe place to go when it is annoyed by the puppy.
And make sure your puppy has a crate to hide when he gets stressed or tired.
Work with your puppy’s obedience and teach the puppy the word “Leave it”. And when the puppy tries to pounce or play with the cat tell the puppy to “Leave it”.
Eventually your cat will get used to the puppy and understand that your puppy isn’t there to threaten him. And maybe someday when the puppy is older your cat will play with the pup.
But until then your puppy is just another anoying disturbance in your cat’s life so he’s going to need some time to get used to it.

What were you expecting?
You need to always allow the cat to have a place to jump to and hide if it is neccessary.
You have to train the puppy to be gentle with the cat….reward the puppy when he’s beahving in the manner you want.
This may take quite some time.

You cannot MAKE them get along!
When the “puppiness” wears off, they will probably be friends (unless one INJURES the other). Now it’s a territory thing along with a “I do NOT wanna play with you” thing…I have a lot of experience with blending new pets….just give it time.

The whole “give it time” answer doesn’t help much if the animals get in a big enough fight. When they’re together at first, you should supervise them. Until they are comfortable with each other, keep a close watch. Puppies are always extremely hyper, so a cat would get nervous. That’s not abnormal. Introduce them slowly, give them both a place to hide away, and never give one a treat without rewarding the other. If it’s a little dog and a big cat, be extra careful.

I have a 7 year old rott and a 7 mo old kitten, this is what worked for me…I took my kitten and rubbed all over my dog. About 24 hours later they were getting along great. They both drink out of the same water bowl and my kitten climbs on my rotties back and sleeps there sometimes. They have even attempted playing tug-a-war……how ever the kitty lost so I bought some tennis ball and they both will chase them my dog brings them back and my kitten hides them.
