How do you know the difference between a miscarriage, chemical pregnancy, or just plain late period?

I took a pregnancy test 1 day after my missed period – negative. My period ended up showing up 3 days later with cramps (nothing bad, just normal period cramps). How do I know if I had a chemical pregnancy, miscarriage, or simply a late period?
If you have a chemical pregnancy or miscarriage only a few days after your missed period, is there a need to wait until trying to get pregnant again?
After a miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy who had a successful pregnancy?

I just took an ept it came back positive!!!!!! I am excited yet nervous all of my pregnancies have been unsuccessful one in a miscarriage the other ectopic (tubal pregnancy). So i am scared to death who has had the same problems with a successful pregnancy? Thank you ladies!!!! You all have been very helpful and supportive. I really appreciate the love and kind generous words.
How long will a pregnancy test show positive after a miscarriage?

I had spotting Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and then cramping Wednesday and Thursday. The test still shows positive. If I did have a miscarriage, how long will a pregnancy test still show positive?
