Yes with your British passport you will be able to use the British Embassies as well as the American. Thats about it.

It depends to where you travel. If you plan to go to Europe it would be an advantage to leave the States on your U.S. passport which is a must and enter Europe on the British passport. You could stay without any time limitations whereas the U.S. passport only grants you a total stay of 90 days within 6 months in the Schengen zone which consists of 25 central European countries except Ireland and the United Kingdom. Furthermore you do not have to queue at immigration since you could use the EU/EEA lane and just get your passport scanned for validity without any questions being asked, forms to be filled or visa stamps being needed..
