Why does society see male nudity as taboo and disgusting, whereas female nudity is desirable?
Many times, in films and media, male nudity is taboo and the male private parts are portrayed as disgusting.
But in contrast, female nudity is not seen as taboo, and female body parts (like breasts, etc) are shown as beautiful and desirable.
Why does society have these standards?

Mostly because these taboos were written by men, homophobic men.
Mind you, many women think that male private parts are fairly disgusting to look at, too!
There’s one more aspect: male arousal is very obvious, while female arousal isn’t. Prudes can fool themselves into thinking that a woman isn’t aroused…

Patriarchal society.
Historically, men have always been the CEO’s, the bosses, the movie directors, etc … so they had the power to sexually objectify women and also portray male nudity as disgusting, because they, as heterosexual males in control of society, were not interested in male nudity. It’s also why this society tends to be very homophobic as well … “hey man I have nothing against lesbians, but two dudes is just nasty.”
Chivalry may be dead (nearly) but patriarchy is still alive and thriving in the west, especially in the entertainment industry.

Mainly because male sex organs hang out on the outside in plain view while female sex organs are all discreetly tucked away inside, maybe.
It wasn’t always that way. Male nudity was commonplace in Greece and Rome. Look at the statues: male gonads were proudly displayed (note the diminutive size of most, though), while female statues always had their hands modestly placed over breasts and pudendum (oddly, a masculine word in Latin). Or maybe it’s just a symptom male-bashing in our increasingly female-dominated (and castrating) society (Lesbian moms denying that children ever need a man in their lives, even though they generally had one in their theirs when growing up).
Really, though, I don’t see much bias, just universal Puritanical abhorrence of anything natural and sexual, a carryover from our Puritan roots.

Most adults would agree that the sex organs of the adult male aren’t very handsome and not very tidy looking either.
I doubt that we see male nudity as “taboo,” since our art historically portrays nudity of both sexes quite openly, but we prefer the more beautiful parts, whether they are statues, engravings, paintings or sculptures.
I don’t agree that film portrays the male private parts as “disgusting.” And most people agree that both the female and male bodies are very beautiful creations, indeed.
